United Airlines is announcing its largest international expansion in nearly a century, giving travelers more chances to explore Europe and Asia. Beginning in spring 2027, the airline will launch nonstop service to 10 new international destinations, including a handful of cities that have no direct service from any other U.S. airline.
The expansion gives travelers more opportunities to discover lesser-served destinations, plan multi-city European trips, and connect to new parts of Asia.
10 New International Destinations Coming to United Airlines
United Airlines will introduce nonstop services to:
- Okinawa, Japan
- Toulouse, France
- Luxembourg City, Luxembourg
- Marseille, France
- Ibiza, Spain
- Valencia, Spain
- Terceira, Portugal
- Ljubljana, Slovenia
- Olbia, Sardinia, Italy
- Catania, Sicily, Italy
The new routes will be launched between March and June 2027, with the first new service scheduled to begin on March 27.
Where will the new flights operate from?
The majority of the new international routes will operate from Newark Liberty International Airport, strengthening Newark's position as the United States' major gateway to Europe.
The planned routes include:
Departure: New Destination, San Francisco, Okinawa, Japan Washington Dulles-Toulouse, France, Newark, Luxembourg City, Luxembourg Newark, Marseille, France Newark, Ibiza, Spain Newark, Valencia, Spain Newark, Terceira, Portugal; Newark, Ljubljana, Slovenia; Newark, Olbia, Italy; Newark, Catania, Italy
With the exception of Olbia and Catania, United says the other destinations do not currently have nonstop service from another U.S. airline.
Why These New Routes Matter for Travelers

Instead of London, Paris or Rome, travelers will be able to fly directly to more destinations including Ljubljana, Valencia, Marseille and Luxembourg City.

United's New Airbus A321XLR
The expansion will also introduce United's newest international aircraft, the Airbus A321XLR, named "Born to Explore."
The aircraft is designed for longer international routes while offering the operating flexibility of a narrow-body aircraft. United plans to begin flying the aircraft on domestic routes in September 2026 before transitioning it to international services later in the year.
The A321XLR will eventually serve five of the newly announced destinations.
More International Flights Are Also Coming
The 10 new destinations aren't the only changes United is making to its international network.
The airline is also increasing service on several existing international routes, including:
- Los Angeles to Osaka, Japan
- Washington, D.C., to Milan, Italy
- Denver to Paris, France
United also plans to restart its San Francisco to Tel Aviv, Israel, service.
The airline says it has added 49 new destinations to its network since 2021, highlighting its continued focus on expanding international connectivity.
